Board-Certified Psychiatrist & Former Medical Director at New Leaf Detox
Please note: Dr. Thankachen is no longer serving as Medical Director at New Leaf Detox. Our current Medical Director is Dr. Mostafa Sherazy, a dual board-certified psychiatrist and addiction medicine specialist who leads psychiatric care across our program.
Dr. Sanjai Thankachen previously served as Medical Director at New Leaf Detox Center. He earned his medical degree from Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences in 2000 and completed his psychiatry residency at Creedmoor Psychiatric Center in New York in 2008, with half of his rotations at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. After residency, he worked in adult outpatient psychiatry at Ventura County Medical Center in California.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Thankachen has practiced in both outpatient and inpatient psychiatric and medical settings, including outpatient work with Progeny Psychiatric Clinic. He has treated patients with a wide range of conditions, including depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety, and dementia-related concerns. He is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the Indian Medical Association, and the Karnataka Medical Association.
